    Retired Naselle teacher, principal and coach Lyle R. Patterson passed away Oct. 19, 2013, after a long illness. He was the son of Joseph and Florence Patterson, born Jan. 11, 1929, in a log cabin north of Spokane. Both of his parents died while he was young, and Lyle was raised by an aunt and an older brother. He graduated from South Haven High School in South Haven, Mich., in 1947. Lyle joined the military in 1947 and served in the occupation of Japan. Margie was born on August 30, 1923 in Astoria, OR to Finnish parents, Waino Erik Rinell and Laina Marie (Hokkanen) Rinell. She was the granddaughter of Andrew Rinell (AnttiRiippa) who homesteaded in Salmon Creek in 1879. She lived her entire life in the Salmon Creek valley of Naselle.
