  • Lots of festive events happening this weekend

    Trudy Fredrickson, Wah. Co. Eagle|Dec 2, 2010

I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving. It was wonderful to get away for a few days, see family, eat too much and get some wonderful news as well. We kind of slip-slided our way to Redmond, Ore. for the holiday as the roads were pretty icy, but made it all in one piece. Our oldest granddaughter, Marlee, became engaged on Friday, and shared the news with us after her boyfriend, Scotty, proposed to her while they were hiking on Smith Rock, just outside of Redmond. They haven’t set a date yet but plan to be married in the summer. It looks l...

  • Snow, snow and still more snow

    Trudy Fredrickson, Wah. Co. Eagle|Nov 25, 2010

My goodness, it’s nearly December, and another year almost gone. Christmas is almost here. This was an unusual beginning for our week. Snow, snow and even a little more snow. An early deadline for the week also throws off the norm. It is really an interesting camp out trying to keep the water pipes from freezing in our motor home. We are actually getting some things done on the home building front though. The framing is nearly done and the roof is covered both upstairs and down with plywood and plastic which means the interior is mostly dry, s...

In preparation for writing this novel, Maryk spent two years in Sweden interviewing survivors from the “Finska Krigsbarn” (Finnish War Children). During that tempestuous time 75,000+ Finnish children were transported to safety...

News from Naselle: The Naselle Grays River Valley School District held a special Veteran’s Day Celebration to honor our veterans on November 10. Several local veterans were in attendance and were given special recognition. It was a wonderful experience for the students, the community and the honored veterans. We certainly owe them for their service and sacrifice and for our freedom. We also need to remember every day those who are serving now in order to maintain our free nation. Thank you to all the veterans who served past, present and future...

  • Give thanks to a Veteran today

    Trudy Fredrickson, Wah. Co. Eagle|Nov 11, 2010

We woke up this morning to four gunshots, not a real surprise as we had hunters on the property. It turned out to be a really successful hunt for Alan Gregory and Mark Zimmerman. They each got their bull elk. Alan’s was a four point plus two eye guard points and Mark’s was a three point plus two eye guards. Congratulations to you both. News from Naselle: PACNET (Pacific County Narcotics Enforcement Task Force) was at school on November 4 for an educational assembly at which time Simon, the PACNET drug dog was introduced. • South Bend corrals Mules 35-7

    Rick Nelson, Wah. Co. Eagle|Nov 11, 2010

The South Bend Indian football team took advantage of six Wahkiakum Mule turnovers to claim a 35-7 victory in the opening round of Class 2B state football playoffs last Saturday. The hosts kicked off to the Mules and stopped the visitors' drive. South Bend then drove the length of the field in nine plays and went ahead 6-0 . The Mules fumbled the ball away on their next drive, and South Bend put another score on the board early in the second quarter. They added another for a 20-0 halftime lead. South Bend went up 27-0 in the third quarter. The...

  • No Cooking Day November 13

    Trudy Fredrickson, Wah. Co. Eagle|Nov 4, 2010

Five and a quarter inches of rain in the bucket, five inches of water over the driveway, ducks, sea gulls and geese in the lake that is usually a pasture; I think winter is coming. The weatherman says a few days of sun are in store. Maybe we can get some more work done on the house. News from Naselle: Another win for the Naselle Comets with a score of 47-14 against Ocosta. Congratulations Team! Sports coming up this week include: Friday, the 5th- football crossover with Central League; Saturday, the 6th- cross country state meet at Pasco. What...

  • Time to prepare for winter weather

    Kay Chamberlain, Wah. Co. Eagle|Nov 4, 2010

SO-SO--As we ended one month and began another, the weather was a mixed bag of either sunshine, gorgeous out, like last Friday, or rain, which consumed a good deal of Saturday. Halloween, which was Sunday, began quite nice and didn't cloud up until the latter half of the day. However, November began with a very wet and miserable day, which caused "lakes" to form in a big hurry. If this is a sign of things to come, it looks like we'd better keep a close watch on our creeks and streams as we don't want to be caught unaware in a flood situation....

He reported that he will be stepping back from the negotiations process for teachers Rudy Rudolph, Mitzi Hunter, and Brian Macy to take over. • Trick or Treat Saturday at Johnson Park event

    Trudy Fredrickson, Wah. Co. Eagle|Oct 29, 2010

Rain, rain, and please go away so we can finish the roof over our house. I don’t think Mother Nature is listening. At least we have it covered in heavy plastic waiting to continue when the deluge stops. • Beef stew and bazaar Friday and Saturday

    Trudy Fredrickson, Wah. Co. Eagle|Oct 21, 2010

My heart goes out to Lois Nelson and the loss she has endured due to her home fire. Fire is devastating not only to property but emotionally as well. I hope she was able to save some of her most personal items, as that seems to be what we miss most, in this type of a loss. Brr! Nights are getting down there temperature wise, but the clear skies are gorgeous. I don’t remember so many nights in a row where you could see the stars so bright. The days have been pretty though, almost too warm in the afternoons. We certainly appreciate Mother N...

  • Time to call in EHO on Kandoll Road project

    Oct 21, 2010

To The Eagle: The meetings and negotiations involving the Kandoll Road project and it's affect on the properties adjacent to the Kandoll farm, and Kandoll road itself, have been ongoing for a few years now, and final resolution of the issues is nowhere in sight. It seems like a good time to employ the services of knowledgeable negotiators/mediators, and such can be found within the Washington State Environmental Hearings Office (http://www.eho.wa.gov/Default.aspx). The EHO consists of two state boards, which deal specifically with the...

  • Exchange cements support for Scott

    Oct 21, 2010

To The Eagle: Please vote for Lori Scott as your next county commissioner. Lori is ready to listen, do her research and make the well thought out decision. I worked for Lori as a real estate agent, for many years, and saw first-hand her professionalism and honesty. After my previous letter, in support of Lori, appeared in this paper, I was talked to by the current commissioner, Blair Brady. Blair was disappointed that I decided to get involved in Lori’s campaign. He said that since I had changed my mind, about ‘getting involved’ then I could...

  • Corrections and Clarifications - Naselle school teacher transfer

    Oct 14, 2010

Karen Wirkkala, principal of Naselle schools, took The Eagle to task over our recent report of a meeting of the board of directors of the Naselle/Grays River Valley School District. "I was very disappointed and shocked to read the misinformation in the Wahkiakum Eagle regarding the September school board meeting in Naselle," she said. "The comments I am alleged to have made are untrue and I believe I need to clarify what I did say as I believe bits and pieces of conversations were taken out of context, put together, and then conclusions drawn...

  • WDOE should have been at meeting

    Oct 14, 2010

To The Eagle: The recent meeting on the Kandoll Road project, involving WADFW, ACOE, county commissioners, CLT/DU, and various property owners seemed to involve the wrong people, based on accounts published in The Eagle. It appears as if the meeting was simply another one touting the benefits, to the fish population, of the project, not examining the effects of the project on adjacent property owners. As background, the project was done using what is called the ‘Streamlined Hydraulic Project Approval (HPA)’ process. An HPA is required to do...
