  • Drama club show Friday at 7 p.m.

    Trudy Fredrickson, Wah. Co. Eagle|Jan 20, 2011

Flooded in again! It wasn’t too bad until Sunday and we couldn’t get any of the vehicles out. The ducks are in heaven though. Our dogs have discovered that if they wade into the water under the trees, they can pick the mice out of the lower branches and have a snack. Of course sometimes you have to share with the other dogs. News from Naselle: The Naselle Drama Club will host a Musical Variety Show on Friday at 7 p.m. Donations will be accepted at the door to help defray some of the Drama Club costs. Enjoy a fun filled evening of family ent...

  • Exciting changes due for Johnson Park

    Trudy Fredrickson, Wah. Co. Eagle|Jan 13, 2011

Another weird week of weather. It looks like all the gloom and doom forecasts have just about missed us so far. It makes me wonder how much these folks get paid, with all the high tech equipment, and still can’t get it even close to right. Maybe they should have a window put in their offices, and look outside before they give a forecast. Be advised, though, the bad weather warnings need to be heeded, just in case. Living in the country makes it difficult to run out and get what you need at a moments notice. Make sure you keep supplies on h...

  • Old time loggers reunion January 29

    Kay Chamberlain, Wah. Co. Eagle|Jan 6, 2011

STILL COLD--Wow, we've had some nippy nights in West Valley but we certainly love the clear, sunny days that have often accompanied them. Our first day of the new year was mostly cloudy and I was fearing snow, but thankfully we didn't get any of that. I'd like it to warm up a bit, but as long as we're not suffering any horrific damages to anything, the frosty mornings and blue skies are looking pretty good right now. However, it sounds like we may be in for some changes so let's hope we don't slip and slide on freezing rain or wind up with a...

    Rick Nelson, Wah. Co. Eagle|Jan 6, 2011

In a 2-1 vote, Wahkiakum County commissioners agreed Tuesday to contract with the merged Wahkiakum Chamber of Commerce and Lower Columbia Economic Development Council (EDC). The two organizations are merging this year as state funding for EDCs is drying up. Commissioners Lisa Marsyla and Dan Cothren voted to make a $25,000 appropriation; Commissioner Blair Brady voted against it. The funds come from the state and are specifically set to be used by a county's economic development organization, selected by the county commission. Brady suggested t...

    Trudy Fredrickson, Wah. Co. Eagle|Dec 30, 2010

Here we are, the final countdown to the end of 2010, and a new year dawning with hope for good health and good fortune coming with it. It has been an eventful year for many of us, but we have all made it through. I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday and that it was full of family, friends, good food and lots of fun. We headed south to Stockton, Calif. and apparently got the blame for bringing more rain to them. We had a wonderful time, spent lots of time with grandkids, kids and even some friends. The grandchildren made ornaments for next...

The victory pushed the Mules a game over .500 for the season and completed the season sweep over the Comets. Despite the team's near season-high 66 points, it was the team defense that Coach Bill Olsen praised after the game, remarking that, “The whole team tonight, at times, played some of the best ‘D’ of the year. It was also nice to see the team’s confidence level was still high following the Adna game....

The Wahkiakum Mules got off to a slow start and were never quite able to recover in a tough-to-take 63-52 loss at home Monday night against the visiting Mossyrock Vikings. After committing turnovers in four of their first five possessions, the Mules quickly found themselves trailing and were forced to play catch-up the entire game. Starting point guard Jon Chambers was ineligible, and various players filled in at unfamiliar positions. • No. 162-10

    Dec 16, 2010

***Advertisement*** WAHKIAKUM WEST TELEPHONE has been the local telephone company serving the Grays River and Naselle areas since approximately 1927. During the intervening years, we have worked hard to build a telephone system that would provide high quality telecommunications services to the communities we serve. We have done this notwithstanding the higher costs of serving rural areas in the State of Washington and when few, if any, other telephone companies were interested in serving our communities. We have served and intend to continue...

  • Winter break for schools not sports

    Trudy Fredrickson, Wah. Co. Eagle|Dec 16, 2010

Sunday certainly brought an interesting storm to our area. The Grays River was over its banks and in the fields within a few minutes that afternoon. We drove to Rosburg at about 3 p.m. and in the time it took us to get back home the water was about four inches deep over our driveway coming in. Of course, Lake Fred (our pasture during fair weather and duck pond during storms), was already up by then and the creek was more than full. Such an exciting place to live, but you know, I wouldn’t trade it for anywhere else. On Monday, our last two w...

  • Mail cards and packages early

    Dec 2, 2010

CALMER, SORT OF--As this work week begins, it is fairly calm outside; no snow or hail or packed ice or anything really terrible like last week, so I am thankful for that. While it looks like the rains are coming back this Monday afternoon with a vengeance, on Sunday it was nice with quite a bit of sunshine coming through. Nothing like sunshine to perk up one's mood! It looks like even more rain is in the forecast however, so by the time you read this, we'll probably be pretty soggy. I hope we don't wind up with any flooding. Keep a watchful...
