A NOAA Fisheries biologist reported last week that summer chinook migration amounted to a record at Bonneville Dam on the Columbia River, but the strong return was significantly diminished by high water temperature mortalities. “I just wanted to highlight that we had a record return,” said Trevor Conder, referring to his presentation to the Technical Management Team in early August. “That indicates we had good ocean conditions and we had good river conditions … The problem is that we got hit with extremely poor river conditions” further upstrea...
The notion that septic tanks prevent fecal bacteria from seeping into rivers and lakes simply doesn't hold water, says a new Michigan State University study. Appearing in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, the study is the largest watershed study of its kind to date, and provides a basis for evaluating water quality and health implications and the impact of septic systems on watersheds. "All along, we...

Still, what the Anderson-Amundsens lack in numbers, they make up for with energy and enthusiasm and laughter. Lois Bighill, this year's emcee, has been to all 60 reunions but one. MISERABLE--With temperatures in the triple digits around the area last week, it was just way too hot for some of us! It was great to see some clouds show up beginning on Sunday and they say we may have some cooler temperatures due this whole week, so that's fine by me. Please take a look around the...
