The Washington State Department of Health recently added the 150-mile stretch of the Columbia River from McNary Dam to the I-90 bridge near Vantage to its growing list of waterways with fish consumption advisories. Tsuga Gallery of Cathlamet has announced its first-ever Cathlamet art festival lineup. The festival, named A River of Art, will take place on September 15 and 16 in a variety of venues in Cathlamet. Washington State Poet Laureate Tod Marshall will headline the festival, which will include music, demonstrations and an art walk. The daily grind of more than 35,000 vehicles per day has taken a toll on sections of the Cowlitz River Bridge (State Route 432), officially known as the Harry E. Morgan Bridge. More Washington teens are getting the vaccine that protects against certain types of cancer, according to new data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Early commercial fall fishing began August 21 for both commercial non-treaty gillnetters and treaty gillnetters on the Columbia River mainstem while Idaho, due to historic low returns, suspended retention of steelhead in Idaho rivers as of August 17. For commercial gillnetters, the limited opening is for five nine-hour fishing periods, all upstream of Warrior Rock at St. Helens, Oregon.
