Friends of Skamokawa will hold their final concerts of their summer series this weekend. Two Skamokawa groups will be featured. Saturday will be Jerry and Becky Ledtke and the Vibes and they will be selling a new CD that just came out. The Wahkiakum County Extension Office would like to introduce a new initiative this year in partnership with the Wahkiakum County Hunger Relief Task Force to encourage home gardeners, farmers and 4-H members to Plant-a-Row for the hungry this growing season. A recent survey by statewide hunger partners Northwest Harvest identified many gaps in access to nutritious fruits and vegetables for low income individuals. The Mule Cheerleaders will host a Mini Mule Cheer Camp for students entering K-8th grade July 12-14 in the High School Gymnasium. The Mini Mule Cheerleaders will show off their new skills in the Bald Eagle Day Parade on July 16. Mini Mules entering grades K-4 will have camp from 5:30-6:30 p.m. each night. The River Life Interpretive Center at Redmen Hall will present a major exhibit this summer on the history of sternwheelers, steamboats, and tug boats on the Lower Columbia River. This exhibit, titled “Rolling on the River” will include stories about the captains of these boats, the river pilots, the builders, and the histories of the companies that managed the complex commerce these boats helped to develop. Donations are being accepted in an account set up at the Bank of the Pacific to help with Eric's service and any continuing needs of the family. Hunters who submitted applications for 2016 special hunt permits can now view the results of this year's drawing on the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) website. PLENTY WARM!--All those heat lovers must have been totally pumped about the heat wave we had last weekend, and even the days prior to and after that, as it was plenty hot, that's for sure!
