    Diana Zimmerman, Wah. Co. Eagle|Jul 31, 2014

There was a palpable sense of camaraderie and joy of the dog amongst the group of enthusiasts who joined Howard and Judy Brawn at their home, Misty River Plantation, on Puget Island last weekend for a lure coursing event. A couple stopped by while looking for a home on Puget Island. The young woman mentioned that they had owned a whippet and quickly made friends. The group teased each other and laughed easily, immediately welcoming to any new face. The event was not unlike a greyhound race. The...

  • It's almost time to make fair entries

    Kay Chamberlain, Wah. Co. Eagle|Jul 31, 2014

TOASTY--The weekend was quite warm and temperatures are supposed to stay that way, so we hope you're staying lathered with sunscreen and drinking plenty of fluids. Don't forget your four-legged friends, as they are already wearing fur coats. It goes without saying that one should be extra careful with fires and BBQ's and even a hanging chain between your truck and boat/trailer as you could set off a fire unintentionally and as we can see, there have been some devastating consequences in our state with wild fires raging out of control. SPECIAL...

  • USPS will reduce hours at Rosburg Post Office

    Trudy Fredrickson, Wah. Co. Eagle|Jul 31, 2014

After the inch or so of rain in my rain gauge last week, it has been nearly perfect weather as far as I’m concerned. My kids and grandkids from California thought so, too. We had a houseful of family with our daughter and her two kids, our son and his three kids and a family friend (kind of an adopted son) here for just a short visit. It was great. Our nephew was also here from the desert of California, but will be returning home today. I will miss the commotion and the kid noises, but I’m sure my husband will be glad for the quiet, at lea...

    Jul 30, 2014

Wahkiakum County's Volunteers in Public Service (VIPS) say people don't need a good reason to throw a block party, but here's one anyway: August 5 is America's National Night Out, an annual community-building happening that raises awareness about crime and drug prevention. It is also a time for promoting police-community partnerships, and neighborhood camaraderie. In years past, VIPS and the Wahkiakum County Sheriff's Office have sponsored a local event. This year, however, the focus is on individual neighborhood events. As Sheriff Mark Howie...

  • Improvements to Bald Eagle Day suggested

    Kay Chamberlain, Wah. Co. Eagle|Jul 24, 2014

WEEKEND WEATHER--As I left my house Saturday morning with a car loaded full of chairs, tents, weights, and raffle items, I was met with a nasty, wet surprise as I traveled down the road, this was not going to be a fun Bald Eagle's Day in the rain and my mood was turning more dour as the miles went by and my wipers had to be turned up a little higher. Needless to say, I was relieved to turn my frown upside down, as when I got to the Elochoman Road turn off, the pavement suddenly turned dry!...
