Back in March, Commissioner Mike Backman formed a task force to look at food insecurity in the county. The Hunger Relief Task Force’s mission is to ensure there is sufficient healthy locally grown food for people in Wahkiakum County. We have been working to assess the needs and strengths of our current system. And so far, we are working towards an action plan that will bring our residents together to address the needs. • Early sightings of Santa abound in area

    Kay Chamberlain, Wah. Co. Eagle|Nov 20, 2013

NASTY START--As this work week began, it started out wet and windy and it didn't take long for "lakes" to show up where green grass used to be. They say we are supposed to dry up but then comes some cold temperatures, so I hope you've gotten all prepared for the winter weather. Don't forget to make sure your outside pets get extra food and a shelter of some kind to protect them. For all of us on springs and wells, we might have to start letting the water drip in order not to freeze up our houses, so it looks like the "fun" has begun for us...

  • Community center to close for Thanksgiving

    Trudy Fredrickson, Wah. Co. Eagle|Nov 20, 2013

Wintery temperatures are on the horizon and it looks like we need to make sure our vehicles are protected with antifreeze, our pet’s water bowls are in a place where they won’t freeze, and our hoses and water pipes are protected from the low freezing temperatures. It probably wouldn’t hurt to check on any of your neighbors who might need a hand with some of these tasks, before it’s too late. We all seem to have at least one neighbor/friend who could do with an extra hand but probably wouldn’t ask. Just sayin’ News from Naselle: The sports cale...

On Tuesday afternoon, Greg Smith was doing detail work and some minor repairs beneath the protective cover of plastic at the front of the building. “We need to go back and fix some places where the paint blistered,” Smith said, “If all goes well, we might be finished as soon as Friday....

  • Congratulations Mules and Lady Mules

    Kay Chamberlain, Wah. Co. Eagle|Nov 15, 2013

COOLING OFF--The fireplaces are being stoked and the heaters are getting turned up, as we are definitely feeling some Fall temperatures in the air around here but then, I guess that's to be expected, as it is mid-November after all. While we may be back to some rain as this Tuesday morning arrives, at least we are not dealing with any serious weather conditions such as they've had in the Phillipines where thousands of lives are feared lost and towns were totally obliterated. We offer up our prayers on their behalf as they struggle with the...

    Trudy Fredrickson, Wah. Co. Eagle|Nov 15, 2013

It’s hard to believe that it is the middle of November already. The nice weather we have had so far makes you wonder what Mother Nature has in store for us for the rest of the winter. My rain gauge says that we have less than half of our normal average rainfall so far, so let’s hope we don’t get the rest of it in the next month and a half. News from Naselle: If you shop at Okie’s Market in Naselle, as most of us do, you probably know that a sweet, personable, hard working friend has left us. Julie Burns passed away this week and will certain...

    Kay Chamberlain, Wah. Co. Eagle|Nov 6, 2013

ANOTHER BEGINNING--We are a week into our Thanksgiving month, and it's darker earlier than ever and we're aware that this year will soon be over; hard to believe. We began this month with quite the wind storm last Saturday and hopefully you came through it without anything major going on at your house. We need to be sure to get those winter survival kits ready as it's likely a preview of things to come. I hear the Farmer's Almanac is calling for snow the last half of December, so we need to be prepared to deal with messed up holiday plans....
