STILL SUNNY--As I begin this column, we’re still enjoying the sunshine although a few sprinkles did appear in a couple of spots over the weekend but as usual, not everyone got them. I was happy that the plants around my place are mostly “leaf feeders” and they got a little drink at least. It feels like fall to me. It was cold this morning (Tuesday). Wet mornings, fog, plants nearing their last days, kids back at school and our lives move on into a new season. Fall is often a time of dying leaves, but it can also be a time of new blessings, like warmth from a good fire and the love of old friends. The Town of Cathlamet is conducting a periodic review of the 2019 Shoreline Master Program (SMP) as required by state law. This project is focused on any needed fine-tuning and house-keeping revisions, not another complete overhaul or rewrite. The 2022-2023 Veterans of Foreign Wars Youth Essay competition is about to begin. Each year the VFW sponsors a nation-wide competition within grades 9-12, the Voice of Democracy and grades 6-8, the Patriots Pen. Washington State VFW sponsors a similar competition within grades 3-5, Youth Essays, as well as the Patriots Pen and Voice of Democracy. Scot Attridge took over as Chief Executive Officer, Ocean Beach Hospital and Medical Clinics (OBHMC), earlier this month, filling the key position vacated by Larry Cohen, who retired on July 29.
