St. James Family Center's Afterschool Care Program recently received $3,000 as a Quality Enhancement grant from School's Out Washington. Lower Columbia College will host its 31st High School Honor Band this weekend. Students will study and rehearse January 15 with special guest conductor James Smart of the University of Montana, then present a free concert at 7:30 p.m. January 16, in the Wollenberg Auditorium, Rose Center for the Arts. Wahkiakum County 4-H Council is hosting a Super Saturday on January 16 at the Wahkiakum High School. This event is open to all youth ages K through grade 12; 4-H membership is not required. For the first time in 12 years, the Wahkiakum High School pep band is fund-raising to raise the $5,000 needed to go to the state basketball tournament. So far the group has planned: Pink flamingos will appear in yards around town. Instructions will be attached to the flamingos. A community concert on January 23, 7 p.m. at the Skamokawa Grange.
