Mules claim district wrestling title

The Mule wrestling team won the District IV Wrestling Tournament this past weekend at North Beach High School.

The Mule Wrestlers outscored 11 other schools--Ocosta, Tacoma Baptist, North Beach, Raymond, South Bend, Willapa Valley, Adna, Mossyrock, Napavine, White Pass and Morton--to claim the district title. This is the Mules second title in the past four years, and their fourth district title all together.

The Mules had finalists in seven of the 14 weight classes. Kevin O'Connor (103 lbs), Jared McEntire (112 lbs), Brady Johns (135 lbs), and Chris Mendez (160 lbs) all won championships in their weight classes. Joel Fudge (140 lbs), Jon Murphy (145 lbs), and James Lewis (152 lbs) all placed second.

In other Mule results, Jeff Vik (125 lbs) was fifth, Zack Schnieder (140 lbs) was fourth, Jake Goldsmith (152 lbs) was fifth, Mitch Moonen (160 lbs) was sixth, and Ben Doumit (171 lbs) was third.

The Mules will compete this Saturday at Tumwater High School in the Region 1 B wrestling tournament. Wrestling will begin at 10 a.m, and finals should begin at 4:30 p.m.
