Community foundation to host class series

The Wahkiakum Community Foundation will host a series of classes at the new Resource Center at the Scarborough Building and at the Julia Butler Hansen Heritage Center.

The series of six classes will be $35, ($5 off) or one can pay individually for single classes.

On March 31 from 10 a.m. til noon, David Hansen will offer an "antique critique." Bring up to three pieces of furniture, china, glass, silver flatware or hollow ware and Hansen will evaluate it and provide an estimated age and provence. From 1-3 p.m., Hansen will host a tour of the JBH center and "Identify the Antiques" in the home. Hansen, a recognized antique expert, was the curator at Fort Vancouver National Historic Site for 31 years and has recently retired. Fee is $10.

Charlie DeDolph from Johnathan's Estate Jewelry in Astoria will hold a "Treasure or Trinket" class from 10 a.m. til 2 p.m. on April 17. Bring up to three peices of jewelry, and DeDolph will examine them and provide an estimated value. DeDolph has been working with fine jewelry for 20 years. The class is at the Resource Center and the fee is $10.

On April 21, Margaret Strueby will teach "Your Garden Flowers." Hosted at the Scarborough Building from 10 a.m. til noon, learn how to arrange flowers to make lovely bouquets. Fee is $5.

"Who Gets Grandma's Yellow Pie Plate" will be the subject of a workshop at the Resource Center from 10 a.m. til noon on May 5. Karen Bertroch will discuss ways to plan for distributing treasures everyone in the family wants. Fee is $5.

On May 19, come to tea at the Julia Butler Hansen Garden and meet Master Gardeners Rob Stockhouse and Joyce Ower. Tea and talk will be offered from 1-3 p.m. in the garden. Fee is $5.
