From his home above the river, David Lee Myers captures the ever-changing personality of the Columbia River in his photo exhibition entitled “Views From Home.”
The show starts March 24 and runs through May in the Columbia River Maritime Museum’s Kern Room.
“The views from my home are at once epic and intimate,” said Myers, “we see the Bridge crossing four miles of river, a bit of Astoria’s waterfront, Tongue Point, and the Willapa Hills to the north in Washington.”
Broadening the metaphor of home, Myers takes the viewer deeper into the regional landscape to capture both the beauty of nature and the human nature on the river and sea. His images tell visual stories of big skies, big water and big weather which transcend the familiar to the poetic.
His 30 years spent in Wahkiakum County’s Eden Valley inspired images of both community history and ancient forest remnants. Since his move across the river to Astoria, Myers finds unending inspiration in the palette of weather, light and seasons as reflected on the Columbia River.
Columbia River Maritime Museum is located in Astoria at 1792 Marine Drive.
