Mules lose two

The Wahkiakum Mule baseball team lost two Central League games last week.

The Mules lost 8-6 March 28 at Adna. The Pirates led 5-1 after two innings and held on to stop a Mule rally for the win.

“We struggled in the field, committing five errors that led to six unearned runs for Adna,” said Mule Coach Jeff Rooklidge. “Our first four guys in the lineup hit the ball hard, especially Ty Briscoe.”

Briscoe had three hits, including two doubles, in three at-bats. Travis Bain had two hits, two runs batted in (RBI) and two runs scored. Josh Rongey had two hits, including a double, and three RBI’s. Brenden McClain had one hit, one stolen base and three runs scored.

Bain pitched six innings and struck out five Pirates. The Mules had eight hits; Adna had five.

On March 30, the Mule bats were silent, and the Napavine Tigers claimed a 3-0 win.

“We actually outhit Napavine five hits to three, but we couldn’t get the hits when we had guys in scoring position,” Rooklidge said.

Blain Fritzie had two hits; McClain, Briscoe and Chris Mendez each had one.

Matt Doumit started on the mound and gave up no earned runs.
