Volunteers needed for Youth Adventure Program

April 26, 2007

St. James Family Center is looking for adults and older teens who may like to volunteer to teach a class to young people this summer's Youth Adventure Program.

The summer program, know as YAP, is scheduled to begin June 25. Classes will be offered in both Cathlamet and the Westend; they'll continue through mid-August. The program offers a wide variety of mini classes and day trips for children of all ages, including arts and crafts, cooking, science, sports, and more.

Volunteers could teach either a one-time class or offer multiple classes, if they chose. The family center would also welcome any suggestions from community members regarding people who may have a special talent, and might be contacted. Also, volunteers are needed to help supervise classes, at times. Teens are encouraged to contact the program coordinator, should they want to help out.

All volunteers will be asked to fill out a criminal backround check

Esther Ashe, YAP/Childcare Program Coordinator, is the contact person for the Cathlamet area and may be reached at the family center, 795-8612, Monday through Friday. Tari Zimmerman, Westend YAP Coordinator, is the contact person for the Westend of the county and can be reached at 465-2147.
