Veterans remember comrades with poppies, ceremony

Wahkiakum County's Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #5297 will be distributing Buddy Poppies on Main Street on May 25 and 26.

On Memorial Day, the Veterans will honor the memory of local veterans at 10 a.m. at Greenwood Cemetary.

The monies collected from local poppy sales stay in the county to benefit local veterans and families.

"Obtaining this little flower of remembrance is a great way to help them and to honor the memory of those who have and are still making the ultimate sacrifice," said Danny Eaton, who was recently elected to the Post Commander position, taking over from Bob Roche. Roche has been elected to Commander of District 16 for the State of Washington with VFW posts including Long Beach, Toutle, Kelso, Longview and Cathlamet.
