Records fallin district meet

Wahkiakum Mule track and field athletes set new records at the district meet last Friday at Naselle.

Overall, 12 athletes qualified to compete at the state Class 2B meet this Friday and Saturday at Eastern Washington in Cheney.

Jasmine Bingham and Walker Riley each won two events and set records in their events; Toby David won the 200m and set a new school record, the girls 800m relay team of Abby Burns, Valle Ledtke, Whitley Wirkkala and Bingham set a new stadium record in that event, and the boys 1600m relay team set a new stadium record in winning that event.

Bingham won the 100m in 12.85 and the 200m in 26.46, a new stadium record.

Valle Ledtke placed second in the girls 400m, 61.76, a personal record for her. She was also fifth in the 200m, 27.47, and qualified for state in that event.

Winning the girls 400m relay in 51.64 were Burns, Whitley Wirkkala, Brandi Arness and Bingham.

Burns, Ledtke, Wirkkala and Bingham won the 800m relay in 1:50.3, a new stadium record.

In the 1600m relay, Whitney Chaput, Sarah Doumit, Wirkkala and Ledtke placed second in 4:23.57.

Doumit placed second in the high jump at 4’10". She was fourth in the triple jump, 31’0.75", and Arness was seventh in the event at 29’1.75".

In the 300m low hurdles, Arness finished fourth, 51.89, and Wirkkala eighth, 54.65.

Overall, the Mule girls scored 79 points and finished second among the 17 teams competing.

The Mule boys scored 52 points and placed fourth overall.

Riley won the 800m, 2:03.56, and the 1600m, 4:32.0, which was a new stadium and school record; he bettered his previous mark by five seconds in the 1600m.

David won the 200m in 22.96, a new school record, and placed third in the 100m, 11.61.

In the 1600m relay, Jon Murphy, Riley, David and Brandon Ferguson set a new stadium record in winning that race in 3:30.64.

In the 400m relay, David, Jon Murphy, Alec Sealund and Brandon Ferguson teamed to place third in 45.59.

Tyson Bain finished 10th in the shot put, 36', and Shay Bingham was 10th in the pole vault, 8'.
