Comets place at state

Naselle Comet track and field athletes placed second in two events and brought home other medals from the state Class 2B Track and Field Meet last week in Cheney.

For the Comet boys, Colton Gilbert placed second at 12'3" in the pole vault, and Tylor Nortrup was third at 11'6".

Kyle Burkhalter placed ninth in the triple jump at 39'7.75" 10th in the high jump at 6', and 11th in the 400m preliminaries at 53.8; only the top eight advanced to the finals.

Beau Keightly competed in the javelin but didn't place.

For the Naselle girls, Erin Saari cleared 10' in the pole vault to finish second; she placed 11th in the 100m preliminaries, 16.88, and and didn't advance to the finals.

Nicole Laney was ninth in the 400m, 1:03.4 and didn't advance to the finals.

Kelsey Fletcher finished ninth in the 1600m run, 5:59.18.

The 1600m relay team of Nicole Laney, Emily Green, Jenny Klinger and Kelsey Fletcher was 16th in the preliminaries at 4:41.2.
