CAP throws a summer solstice party

June 7 , 2007

Lower Columbia CAP is throwing a summer solstice crab and karaoke party for the community.

“It’s a fundraiser for Lower Columbia CAP, but it’s also a way of saying thank you to the community for supporting our work over the past year,” said Alan Rose, CAP’s community relations director.

The event is June 22, beginning at 6 p.m., at the Cowlitz Regional Conference Center.

Commissioner Dan Cothren, who is a member of the CAP Board of Directors, has helped obtain the crab and oysters and a team of community members have been working with CAP staff to plan the event: Kristi Barber, Kathy Bates, Ben Coombs, Amy Davis, Lynne Frost, Donna Hammond, Joel Hanson, Carrie Medack, Dan Polacek, and Maryanne Wainwright.

“These people know how to throw a party,” said Rose. “Which is good since we social service types are not known for getting down and being crazy.”

The $40 ticket includes the buffet and two drinks from the bar. Additional drinks can be purchased.

There will be prizes for the best male and female vocalists, best group, as well as numerous raffle prizes, and a 50/50 drawing.

The two title sponsors of the evening, Red Canoe Credit Union and Comcast have challenged each other to a karaoke match at the event.

Other groups are encouraged to challenge each other, said Rose. “Maybe the Rotary Clubs could challenge the Lions and Kiwanis, or there could be a contest between the Cowlitz and Wahkiakum county commissioners. The possibilities are endless and we have prizes!”

Tickets can be purchased at the Trillium Bookstore in Cathlamet, and also at the CAP building, 1526 Commerce in Longview (next to the Columbia Theater), and the Red Canoe branch offices at 1418 15th Avenue and 2266 30th Avenue.
