Paul Aldinger named citizen of the year

December 11, 2008

Each year, the Cathlamet Woman's Club nominates a person in the community who has been outstanding in some way as its citizen of the year. The 2008 Citizen of the Year is Paul Aldinger.

The club's announcement said that when Paul left Vancouver behind and moved to Puget Island, he jumped wholeheartedly, right into Cathlamet community activities. He was part of the group organized by the Woman's Club that cleaned up the broken glass in the Pioneer Church when the restoration work began. He also researched Women in History for one of the club's Bald Eagle floats, and in 2008 he built the Bald Eagle float himself.

Paul is a member of the Kiwanis, is a supporter of the schools, and is involved in other philanthropic activities, including his popular lectures of Constitution day for the ladies of the Daughters of the American Revolution. He is especially well known for his many acts of kindness to his friends and neighbors. Paul has driven friends needing rides to the VA Hospital in Portland as well as to St. John Medical Center for treatment. He has continued to remain active in the Methodist Church, serving on various committees at the Pacific Northwest Conference and at District levels. In addition, he looks forward to having coffee with his friends each day.

The Cathlamet Woman's Club is delighted to have Paul ride in the 2009 Bald Eagle Parade as its Citizen of the Year.
