SJFC opens kitchen for community use

In response to requests from members of the local community, St. James Family Center has opened their kitchen for use as a community kitchen when it is not in use by the center. It may be rented by those wishing to develop culinary goods to sell at farmer's markets, caterers, chefs doing recipe testing, or anyone who has an interest in cooking or baking for public consumption.

Under Washington State law, such food products must be prepared in a Health Department licensed kitchen. The Family Center has been inspected and is fully equipped.

Rob and Diane Stockhouse, of Puget Island's Stockhouse Farm recently rented the kitchen to prepare organic granola which they sell at Two Islands Farm Market. According to the Stockhouses, the St. James Community Kitchen is well supplied with almost everything needed to prepare food for sale. They found the convection oven to be especially useful for baking items quickly.

St. James Family Center is like most non-profit agencies, looking for ways to increase their income in order to continue their services.
