Lady Mules post one win, two losses

The Wahkiakum Lady Mule girls basketball team lost two of three games this week.

The Mules raced to a 20-0 first quarter lead and rolled over the King's Way Knights 70-8 on Tuesday in a non-league game.

Brieanna Olsen scored 22 points to lead the Mules. Halie Boyce added 13 points, Ashley Helms 10, Caitlin Nicolazzi six, Evelyn Clark five, Shelby Felton and Brianne Helms four each, and Jordyn Wirkkala and Blaine Land two each.

Helms, Jordyn Wirkkala, Evelyn Clark and Blaine Land each had six rebounds, and Wirkkala made five steals.

Central League opponents weren't so easy for the Mules.

On Tuesday, the Mules lost 59-51 at Toutle Lake. The Ducks led 33-23 at halftime, and the Mules outscored them 18-13 in the third quarter to close the gap. The Mules took a two point lead in the fourth quarter, but Toutle held on for the win.

Wirkkala led the scoring with 18 points; Clark scored 10, Olsen nine, Felton five, A. Helms four, Rebecka Patching three and Boyce two.

Clark pulled down 18 rebounds, and Patching had six.

Last week at Napavine, the Mules lost 75-39.

"The girls played a good first quarter," commented Mule Coach Tiffany Niemeyer. "Napavine is tough, and we didn't make some adjustments that we should have. We had a ton of turnovers and gave up losts of second chances for them."

Boyce led the Mule scoring with 10 points. Wirkkala had eight; Clark, Olsen and A. Helms five each, and Patching and B. Helms two each. The Mules made only 12 of 61 shots, 20 percent.

Clarkhad eight rebouneds; Land, and A. Helms each had five, and Boyce had four rebounds and made four assists.

The Lady Mules entertain Pe Ell tonight (Thursday); they go to White Pass, varsity only, next Wednesday.
