Dorothy H. Trimble

March 25, 2010

Dorothy H. Trimble died peacefully in her sleep in Olympia, Washington on 20 March 2010. She had struggled with Multiple System Atrophy and all its complications for a number of years. She was a resident of Naselle, and only since October 2008, had she and her husband, Robert, moved to Olympia. Dorothy was a “woman of God” and “a faithful servant.”

Dorothy was born 10 December 1932 in Fredonia, Kan., to Helene Bauman and Tolly J. Lugenbeal. She was the eldest daughter of three girls. The family moved to Cathlamet, where Dorothy graduated from Wahkiakum High School. She met her future husband when the high school had a roller skating party. Robert was home from college and attended the skating party with his buddies. He skated passed Dorothy and “accidentally” ran her over. He felt sorry that he had caused her to fall and so he asked if he could take her home. They married on 2 September, 1950. They have six children.

Dorothy and Robert raised their family in Matlock, where they lived for 30 plus years. Dorothy worked in the office at the local school where she said she could “always keep an eye on my kids.” She did enjoy children very much and was active in church and school events. She was the Sunday School Superintendent at Matlock Community Church for many years and coordinator for the annual Vacation Bible School held in the community. She was actively involved in the activities in which her children engaged and always was their most passionate supporter.

In 1975 as a result of a job transfer for Robert, the family moved to Naselle. Dorothy again was active in church and school activities. She worked for a short time at the Naselle Youth Camp before taking a position with the Naselle School District as the accounts receivable clerk. She retired in 1998. She was the Sunday School Superintendent at the Naselle Assembly of God Church for many years and was active in the Ladies Bible Study Group. Due to Dorothy’s illness, they moved to Olympia in 2008.

In retirement, Dorothy and Robert travelled widely, visiting a daughter in Paris, France, a daughter on the east coast, and visiting family in Kansas and Missouri. She and Robert took numerous trips to various places such as Hawaii, Mexico, Ireland, and Canada. In addition to travelling, Dorothy was an avid reader and also enjoyed doing handcrafts, sewing, knitting, crocheting and embroidering.

Dorothy is survived by her husband of 59 and a half years Robert; a son Timothy and his family; daughters Fran and family, Teresa, Lorri and family, and Faith and family. She was preceded in death by a son, Lance Andrew Trimble. Dorothy had 10 grandchildren whom she dearly loved—Stephanie, Erin, Tyler, Logan, Haley, Kale, Kara, Mason, Grace, and Hope. Dorothy is also survived by her two sisters, Donna Burns and Deloris Wages of Cathlamet.

A Memorial Service will be held in Naselle on Friday, March 26, 2010 at 5 p.m. at the Naselle Assembly of God Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Ronald McDonald House or the Union Gospel Mission in Grays Harbor County.
