The Wahkiakum County Pomona Spring Contest was held on May 8, at the Skamokawa Grange. Overall, entries were down from last year. State CWA Chair Donna Moody, stated the same thing is happening all over the state. Those who did enter items and received a purple ribbon will have their entries brought to the State Convention in Bellingham at the end of June.

Carlton Appelo celebrated his 88th birthday on May 12. At Tuesday’s meeting in honor of Carlton’s birthday, Grange members sang a heartfelt Happy Birthday. Next year Carlton will celebrate his 60th year of Grange membership.

Grays River Grange will sponsor a primary candidate’s night on July 27 at Johnson’s Park. The forum will begin at 7 p.m. Both Republican and Democratic candidates will be invited to attend. The emphasis will be on the 3rd District Congressional race and local election races.

The Grays River Grange Farmer’s Market will begin June 1. Market location is Meserve Park in Grays River just off SR 4. Market hours are 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Interested in being a vendor? Grays River Grange meets the second and fourth Tuesday of each month. Locavore Potluck Dinner begins at 6:30 p.m. followed by a Business Meeting at 7:30 p.m.
