September 9, 2010



Wahkiakum County law enforcement officers and emergency response personnel handled a variety of reports during the past week, including:

August 31--7:26 a.m. A caller reported illegal dumping along Hull Creek Road and a possible suspect was later identified. 8:31 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to aid a West Valley woman with abdominal pain. 11:59 a.m. A person camping at Hornstra's Beach reported a theft of medications. 2:24 p.m. A Grays River man reported someone had loosened bolts on a tractor wheel which led to $500 or more in damage. 10:05 p.m. Motorists reported a large, fallen tree limb was on SR 4 at the Milepost 42 passing lane; the state Department of Transportation was notified.

September 1--5:11 a.m. A motorist reported large rocks had rolled onto SR 4 between Mileposts 40 and 46; state DOT was notified. 11:52 a.m. A Rosedale resident reported someone had stolen tools during the night. 3:53 p.m. A caller said someone had stolen traffic safety cones at Rosburg during the night. 5:19 p.m. An officer investigated a report of two people harassing each other near Skamokawa. 8:04 p.m. A caller reported seeing a pit bull dragging its owner in Rosedale; the Cathlamet ambulance and an officer were dispatched and learned that the pit bull, belonging to someone living outside the town city limits where pit bulls are prohibited, was on a leash and pulled its owner over while starting to chase another dog.

September 2--4:47 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to aid a nursing home resident needing to go to a hospital. 12:23 p.m. A caller said a Wahkiakum High School student had borrowed a set of car keys and was refusing to return them; the call was referred to the high school principal. 12:34 p.m. A woman reported being threatened by a man; an officer investigated. 8:06 p.m. A pedestrian reported hearing and seeing a fire in brush along East Birnie Slough Road; a dispatcher learned the fire was a controlled burn and contacted the land owner, who put it out.

September 3--11:12 a.m. Wahkiakum officers were asked to watch for a man who allegedly abducted his girlfriend's three children in Longview; the children were found safe at 12:21 p.m. 7:03 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to aid a Rosedale man with a bad cut on a finger. 7:29 p.m. A Rosedale resident reported a couple had been fighting all day; an officer made contact.

September 4--10:19 a.m. A caller reported a buoy had broken free of its anchor in Grays Bay and was drifting up river near Altoona; the Coast Guard was notified. 1:38 p.m. A man reported losing a wallet with $500 in the Cathlamet area. 5:40 p.m. A caller said a man driving a pickup on East Sunny Sands Road had swerved across the road to menace two people on bicycles; a deputy made contact. 5:50 p.m. A caller reported seeing an unattended recreational fire along the beach near Altoona; a fire officer made contact. 7:26 p.m. A caller reported a teenage girl was assaulting her father at a Westend residence; an officer investigated.

September 5--11:12 a.m. A caller said several people were snagging fish in the Grays River along Covered Bridge Road; Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife was notified. 11:26 a.m. Alder Drive residents reported problems with electricity; Wahkiakum PUD responded. 11:54 a.m. A Wainamo Road resident reported people were trespassing. 5:06 p.m. A caller reported people were fishing illegally along the Upper Naselle River Road. 7:34 p.m. Two Elochoman Valley residents reported hearing a explosion; a deputy was advised. 8:26 p.m. A Beaver Creek Road resident reported someone was trespassing and should be arrested.

September 6--8:24 a.m. A motorist reported a non-injury traffic accident involving a Blazer at the western foot of KM Mountain; the state patrol was advised. 5:14 p.m. A Cathlamet resident reported a pit pull was roaming around the school grounds. 8:52 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to aid a nursing home resident needing transportation to a hospital.
