What's Happening at the Fair? - April 14

April 14, 2011

I have a message for the many people who have inquired about the Silver Buckle Series Game Show. We are planning the Game Series! I will have the three event dates in my Fair column next week. This year we plan to run these events at each game show: Poles, Figure 8, Key Poles, Speed Barrels, International Flags and Texas Barrels. We may add another game event or two to the above list. I am studying three new patterns that I think would be fun for the gaming crowd. If you have a horse gate key and would like to volunteer to run the patterns in the arena so I can get a visual look at each pattern, give me a call. I’ll set up the patterns if you’ll run your horse through them.

The T-building was in need of an “after the window project” clean up. Volunteers Azery Gribskov, Bryan Ledtke and I spent Saturday afternoon tackling this job. We vacuumed, swept, cleaned up sawdust piles, moved items back to their original places, then put away lumber and equipment. Thank you Azery and Bryan; the T-building looks great!

This Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., the 4-H Council and Wahkiakum County Fair Board are both having fund raising events at the Fairgrounds.

Fair Board member Jean Beerbower has collected 100s of great books for our Book Sale. We have received many donations of other items to sell also. Lots of glassware, knick-knacks and other good stuff you need to come shop through. All items sold at affordable prices. The Fair Board book sale/good stuff sale will be at the Fairgrounds in the T-building. All proceeds will maintain and support your 2011 Wahkiakum County Fair!

There is still time to donate to this sale. We encourage our community to donate their favorite reading materials to the fair so we can have another great book sale fund raising event. Give Jean a call at 849-0001 or call the Fairgrounds at 795-3480 and leave a message. We will arrange a time to collect your donated books or meet you at the Fairgrounds.

Just one more week until Easter Bingo! Fair board member Martha Backman has choosen an XBOX 360 with Kinect and two games for the Special Raffle Drawing prize this year at Easter Bingo. Tickets are only $1 for a chance to win this great prize. We will also have a multiple prize raffle drawing, tickets are only $1 for a chance to win these prizes too. Bring a can of food to donate to the local food bank and we will trade you a bingo card for it. When you win a bingo game you will receive a delicious ham or Foster Farms Chicken. The Fair Board would like to thank Foster Farms for their generous donation. Stop by the J.A Wendt multi-purpose room on April 22 at 6 p.m. for an evening of family fun playing bingo. You might win an XBOX 360!

Have a little time to volunteer? We have lots of projects to do to get ready for the 2011 Fair and we would welcome your help!

It’s time to hire a handyman for the Fairgrounds! If this part-time temporary employment sounds like an interesting way to spend May through August to you, please apply.

If you need to gain access to the Fairgrounds contact Fair Manager Becky Ledtke at 560-0371 or you can call 1-360-795-3480 and leave a message.
