What's Happening at the Fair?

February 2, 2012

Wow! Twenty people filled out applications for 12 positions on the Wahkiakum County fair board! I think our county commissioners had some tough decisions to make selecting board members. The selected board members will use their skills and knowledge to help plan many new projects at the fairgrounds. I am looking forward to working with the fair board members at our fund raising events in 2012 and discussing new ideas for activities at our fairgrounds.

The Wahkiakum County Fair Board members are Bill Chamberlain, Jim Moten, Joe Blalock, Phil Vik, Rick Damitio, Shawn Merz, Neil Beerbower, Janet Bryan, Susan Rawls, Maureen Zacher-Bockius, Martha Backman and Deb Gribskov.

The same day the new board members received their fair board appointments in the mail, they also received the Valentine Diamond Dinner committee meeting notice from me. I wouldn’t want them wondering what happens next. This fund raising event will help all of us get to know each other and start establishing good working friendships. We will work together to prepare and serve an elegant dinner to 110 guests. I hope you and your loved one will attend our dinner, it’s going to be a fun night!

Only 10 days until the Valentine Diamond Dinner! You can support the 2012 Wahkiakum County Fair by purchasing tickets to the Valentine Diamond Dinner held at the Skamokawa Grange on February 11. Tickets are still only $25 per dinner and the price includes a raffle ticket to win a diamond necklace! The necklace is a beautiful double heart with sparkling diamond accents. This same raffle has multiple other prizes that you can win including a lapis lazuli necklace, candles and the prize list keeps increasing each day. Purchase more raffle tickets for $1 each during the dinner to increase your chances of taking a nice prize home. Evening entertainment will be provided by talented pianist Sheran Parker, she will fill the Skamokawa Grange Hall with musical melodies as you enjoy your delicious dinner. Purchase your dinner tickets at the Cathlamet Bank of the Pacific or call Becky at 795-3434/560-0371 for out of town purchases. Dinner includes a filet mignon steak, baked potato with all the fixings, multi-lettuce salad, green beans, a fresh baked roll, dessert, a glass of wine or your choice of beverage. All proceeds from Wahkiakum County Fair Board fund raising events go directly toward supporting and maintaining your 2012 Wahkiakum County Fair.

If you would like to attend the Valentine Diamond Dinner but are a vegetarian we also serve portabella mushrooms cooked on the barbecue. At the dinner just let your waitress know you would like the portabella mushrooms instead of the filet mignon steak and you will be served a wonderful vegetarian dinner.

The fair office is open by appointment only. If you need to gain access to the fairgrounds contact Fair Manager Becky Ledtke at 795-3480 or 560-0371 and leave a message.

The next Wahkiakum County Fair Board meeting is February 8, 7 p.m., River Street Building Meeting Room in Cathlamet. The public is always welcome to attend.
