Wahkiakum Mule senior Blayne Edwards won the 113 lb. weight class in the state Mat Classic wrestling tournament, and the Mule boys basketball team clinched a berth in the regional tournament with an 82-53 over Raymond on Saturday.

Edwards won the 103 lb. title last year. This year, he swept through the 113 lb. bracket. He won the semifinal 6-4 over Brandon Medina of Brewster; Medina later placed third. In the finals, Edwards dominated Kain Feltwell of Liberty/Spangle in a 12-1 decision.

In the boys 2B SW District basketball tournament, the Mule boys lost a semifinal game to Adna 50-46 last Thursday. On Saturday, they overwhelmed Raymond in an 82-53 victory. The Mules will face the Mossyrock Viking 2:30 p.m. this afternoon in Chehalis in the battle for third and fourth place berths in the regional playoffs next weekend

In regionals, the third place team plays the District 1/2 second place team at 6 p.m. and the fourth place team plays the District 1/2 champion at 8 p.m.Both games are at Mt. Vernon.

Adna and Toutle Lake play for the 2B boys championship, 8 p.m. today in Chehalis. The loser plays the District 1/2 third place team at 6 p.m. Friday at Mark Morris; the winner plays the District 1/2 fourth place team at 8 p.m., also at Mark Morris.

The winners of the regional games advance to the state tournament in Spokane March 1-3.

In the girls 2B District Tournament, South Bend knocked the Lady Mules out of the competition last Wednesday in a 57-50 game.

Adna and Pe Ell play for the championship today, 6 p.m., in Chehalis, and Toutle Lake and Napavine play for third and fourth places at 1 p.m. today in Chehalis.

The girls 2B western regionals will be in Mt. Vernon and Mark Morris on February 25.
