Student involved in ambassador program

To The Eagle:

My name is Shelby Robinson and I am 13 years old. I currently attend John C. Thomas Middle School in Cathlamet.

A few short months ago I was offered a very unique and wonderful opportunity to travel with the People to People Ambassador program which was founded by President Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1956. His vision for this program was to promote peace among different cultures, race and religions through individual ordinary citizens. Through this experience, I will:

• Discover and enjoy traveling with new friends and gain eye-opening perspectives.

• Develop new skills through activities that encourage going outside my comfort zone in a safe and rewarding way.

• Serve a greater purpose by being involved in community service projects with the local community.

• Learn about our world through hands-on interaction with local citizens, government officials, and experts in many fields.

My journey will begin July 2, 2012. I will be representing the United States on a once in a lifetime trip to China (Beijing, Shanghai, Xi'an, and Guilin). As you can imagine, the costs associated with this opportunity are substantial. It will cost a total of $6,000. I am largely depending on the contributions of my family, friends and businesses in our close communities to make this dream a reality.

It is a daunting request in these economically challenging times, but any amount and each and every cent would help me meet my financial goal and would be enormously appreciated. To make a contribution, please mail to 24 Crown Camp Road, Cathlamet, WA 98612.

I want to thank you in advance for your time, consideration, and support in this life changing endeavor.

Shelby B. Robinson
