The Wahkiakum Mule volleyball team won two matches and a tournament in the past week.

On Tuesday, the Mules traveled to Randle and defeated the Morton/White Pass Timberwolves 3-1; scores were 21-25, 25-22, 25-22 and 25-20.

"We won in four after a slow start the first game," Coach Kayli Hurley reported.

Standouts were Baylee Olsen with 12 kills, Amy Gawith with six kills and solid net play, and HaileyQuigley with 17 service points, many of those at key points in the ends of games three and four.

On Saturday, the Mules claimed the championship of the Mossyrock Tournament.

A slow start in pool play gave them the eighth seed, of eight teams, in the championship bracket. In pool play, the Mules split with Mossyrock 20-25, 25-20; they lost to Adna 18-25, 16-25; split with WF West 20-25, 25-23, and finished with a split with South Bend 23-25, 25-22.

The Mules caught fire in the championship round.

"Out of the gate we faced undefeated on the day and number one seed Pe Ell," Hurley said. "The Lady Mules cranked up the heat and beat PeEell in three, 25-11, 14-25 and 15-13, the number eight knocking out the number one in the single elimination bracket.

"We then faced Morton/White Pass and won in two 25-13, 25-21 to head to the finals. In the final, WF West took the first game 21-25, and the Mules kicked it in gear to take two and three 25-22 and 15-10.

"Standouts on the day were Haylee Budd with 91 assists, 23 service points and 13 kills, Tori Wegdahl with 47 kills and 18 service points, and Kaylee Bryant with 13 kills, six solo blocks, and 17 service points.

"The afternoon was an all-around solid team effort; I'm very proud of them!"

Last Thursday, the Mules defeated the visiting Napavine Tigers 25-23, 23-25, 25-23 and 25-19.

Standouts were Quigley with 18 service points, including six aces, Madison LaBerge with solid serve receive passing, and Olsen and Wegdahl shipping in 14 kills a piece.

The Mules entertain Toutle Lake tonight (Thursday); Mossyrock comes to Cathlamet November 27.
