Charles L. Wika

Charles LeRoy "Max" Wika was born on May 14, 1951 in Longview to LeRoy Wika and the late Norma Jean (Witham) Wika. He ascended to join his mother and the rest of God's angels on October 8, 2012 in Vancouver, Wash.

Max graduated from Wahkiakum High School in Cathlamet in 1969. He enjoyed music and art, was the ASB president, as well as a member of the debate and oratory teams. Max went on to attend the University of Washington and later graduated from the Ron Bailey School of Broadcasting.

Taking the radio name "Max Flasher" he became a radio disc jockey for the KLYK FM station in Longview. Max continued to follow his love of music as a DJ for Horst Mager in one of his discos in Portland. He also worked as an equipment manager for the band Quarterflash.

With a warm smile, gentle spirit and a helper's heart, Max became a caregiver for the elderly in recent years. He also had an interest in technology and helped people with their computer needs. He was a friend to all who knew him and had a keen sense of humor.

Max is survived by his father and stepmother, LeRoy and Dawn Wika of Cathlamet, brothers Rick Wika of Spokane, and Chris Wika of Lawrence, Kan., a niece and a nephew and a large extended family. He was preceded in death by his mother, Norma Jean Wika, and grandparents Torlief and Hazel Wika and Bert and Violet Witham.

A private service will be held at Greenwood Cemetery in Cathlamet.

Dowling Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
