Nina Lou Watson was born on July 9, 1931 in Argura, North Carolina to Mitchell and Sadie Melton. She passed away on March 16, 2013 at the Hospice Care Center.

At age 16 she married R.O. Watson in 1948 and in 1960 they moved west to Cathlamet. Nina and R.O. loved their home on Puget Island, the river, and sharing it all with everyone who came there. Friends and family were always welcomed by Nina’s big smile and ready laughter.

Nina will be greatly missed. She leaves behind two daughters, Debbie Wakefield of St. Helens, Ore., and Elizabeth Norris of Longview; four grandchildren, Melissa Montblanc, Ivy and Sam Haynes and Nathaniel Norris; a great grandson, Ryker Montblanc; a large extended family and many friends.

Nina was preceded by the love of her life, R.O. in 1998; their daughter Mary Jane in 1954; a brother, Sanford Melton; and a sister, Janet Mathis.

A visitation time will be held on Friday, March 22 from 3-7 p.m. at Dowling Funeral Home in Cathlamet. On Saturday a celebration of Nina’s life will be held at the United Church of Christ (Congregational) in Cathlamet at 11 a.m., with interment to follow at Greenwood Cemetery.
