Mule golf team shoots 159

March 22, 2013

Coach Nick Vavoudis from the Mule golf team sent us this report about last week’s home golf match at Skyline Golf Course, but it was inadvertently left out of yesterday's paper.

The Mules golf team started the 2013 season with a record setting four-ball total of 159, eclipsing last year’s record of 164 by five strokes. Three Rivers Christian (TRC) finished second, totaling 199. TRC’s Logan Woods, who finished 10th place in the 2012 state championships, lead his team with a 42. Adna was incomplete because they only had three players.

Senior Brysen Coleman earned medalist honors, shooting a personal match play best of 37. Junior Austin Good shot 38 for second place.Tying for third were senior Brook Calvert and sophomore Elliot Haney at 42. Junior Zach Calvert shot 43 and senior Bradley Peek shot 40. Bradley's score of 40 did not count in the team match because he was playing in the sixth place for the Mules. Only the best four scores of the first five playing positions count in a team total.

Also playing were Eli McElroy, who shot 55, and Maya Stanley, who shot 74 while playing in her first-ever nine hole match.

Head coach Bill Olsen had the players ready, making them compete for a position on the team during practice with each player knowing that only five players count in the weekly matches. All six spots do compete for team points at the district and state Championships.

Also coaching the 2013 Mules are Cody Olsen and Nick Vavoudis.

The team traveled to North Beach yesterday (Thursday) and will head to Three Rivers Christian on Monday.
