4-H club works to reduce underage drinking

To The Eagle:

Wahkiakum 4-H has conducted several awareness activities in the last few weeks to help reduce underage drinking in their community. For one activity we plan to attend an athletic and community event to hand 100 flyers to youth and community members with information about the effects of underage drinking.

We will be writing a script for a Public Service Announcement to hopefully be aired on a local radio station. So stay tuned to your local stations and listen for a PSA by your local 4-H youth to help prevent underage drinking.

We will also be assessing local stores in Wahkiakum County and looking at a variety of items that impact our youth and community members. We will then look over our findings and present them to local organizations in a video that will be available on our YouTube Channel.

On April 16 we held signs on Main Street. The signs said “Draw the Line Between Youth and Alcohol, Honk if you Agree.” We appreciate the community members who honked to show their support for our efforts to reduce underage drinking in our community.

Providing alcohol to minors has a potential penalty of $5,000 and up to a year in jail according to RCW 66.44.270.

Let’s Draw the Line between Youth and Alcohol! Check us out on Facebook: Wahkiakum 4-H for updates on all our activities.

Sincerely,

Wahkiakum 4-H After School Club
