Sheriff's Report - June 20, 2013

 


Wahkiakum County law enforcement officers and emergency response personnel handled a variety of reports during the past week, including:

June 10—11:48 a.m. A caller stated that they believed that people were transporting illegally cut cedar via the ferry. 1:33 p.m. One person was taken into custody after a traffic stop along SR 409 entering Cathlamet. 2:20 p.m. A caller reported that a vehicle headed eastbound on SR4 east of Cathlamet near the west end of the passing lanes was driving erratically at a speed over 70 miles per hour. A deputy pulled over the vehicle at Bunker Hill. 3:24 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to aid a 14-year-old boy who had lost consciousness. 4:17 p.m. A caller reported that someone had gotten ahold of her Facebook password and was making statements on her account. 4:48 p.m. A teenager and his parent reported that he had been assaulted at school, requiring medical attention. A deputy investigated. 7:53 p.m. Puget Island firefighters responded to a brush fire along North Welcome Slough Road. 10:34 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to aid an 84-year-old woman with breathing difficulty.

June 11—7:20 a.m. A caller reported seeing a man sleeping along SR4. A deputy responded and arrested the man for an outstanding felony warrant 12:28 p.m. A caller reported the violation of a protection order. 2:12 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to aid an elderly woman who had slipped and fallen in the bathroom. 3:30 p.m. A person stopped by the sheriff’s office to file a report of theft after noticing that batteries and propane tanks had been taken on June 7. A deputy investigated.

June 12—A caller reported that three pit bulls were not letting the caller up his driveway. 6:50 p.m. The Grays River ambulance responded to aid a person with low blood pressure that had lost consciousness.

June 13—2:52 p.m. Deputies and the Cathlamet ambulance responded to a possible hostage situation. Deputies entered the residence and secured three adults and two infants. The Cathlamet ambulance treated two people who had been assaulted. 4:20 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance and District 4 firefighters responded to aid a 30-year-old woman with high blood sugar. 5:42 p.m. A caller reported that trespassers were squatting on their property. A deputy investigated. 6:33 p.m. A caller reported that a 51-year-old man was deceased. The coroner responded. 8:56 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to aid an elderly woman who had fallen.

June 14—1:44 a.m. District 4 firefighters and the PUD electrical crew responded to a utility pole that was on fire along Beaver Creek Road. 5:37 a.m. The Grays River ambulance responded to aid a 79-year-old man who was spitting up blood. 6:25 a.m. A caller reported that they had hit a deer along Elochoman Valley Road. 7:57 a.m. A caller requested a welfare check on a family member. A deputy made contact. 8:20 a.m. A wallet was turned in to the Sheriff’s Office. The wallet’s owner was contacted and picked it up. 1:30 p.m. A caller reported that people were mowing and throwing the grass into the road. The homeowners were contacted and said that they would blow the grass off the road. 2:45 p.m. A caller reported the violation of a restraining order. 3:14 p.m. One person was taken into custody in the courthouse parking lot on an outstanding warrant. 4:21 p.m. A caller reported that another driver had tried to run them off the road near the old garbage dump east of Cathlamet along SR4. 5:15 p.m. A caller reported that a motorcycle was speeding along a residential road. A deputy talked with the motorcyclist, who explained that they had been testing out a new bike and would settle down. 9:12 p.m. A caller in a no-shooting area of the Elochoman Valley reported hearing shots fired very close to their residence. A deputy investigated and found a man target shooting in the area. He was advised of the no-shooting zone and asked to stop. 9:18 p.m. A caller reported that people were shooting off fireworks in their neighborhood and had been for several nights. A deputy responded and located an adult and two juveniles who were shooting off the fireworks and advised them of the complaint. 9:45 p.m. A caller reported a non-injury car accident along SR4 near the Grays River United Methodist Church.

June 15- 10:22 a.m. A caller reported that a swarm of bees had landed on a neighbor’s property. The caller said they had contacted a beekeeper. 2:09 p.m. A caller reported that a person walking in and out of traffic on SR4 near Jacobson Road was creating a hazard. A deputy was unable to locate the subject. 2:24 p.m. Two people were arrested after a traffic stop along SR4 near the Elochoman River Bridge. 5:19 p.m. A caller reported that a woman was lying on SR4 near Nassa Point. A deputy and a mental health professional responded. The Cathlamet ambulance transported the woman to a Longview hospital.

June 16—12:06 a.m. A deputy located a vehicle that had been left at the town dock with the windows down and keys in the ignition. The deputy made contact with the vehicle’s registered owner and returned the keys. 12:23 p.m. A caller reported a near-collision between a car and a pedestrian in the crosswalk at the intersection of Main Street and Butler Street. A deputy was unable to locate the vehicle. 3:19 p.m. A caller reported that campers at an illegal campsite had shot a gun at the caller, peppering the trees next to them. 5:05 p.m. A caller requested a welfare check on a family member. A deputy made contact. 5:13 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to treat a 38-year-old man who had passed out in a vehicle. 7:45 p.m. A caller reported that 20 cattle were loose at the fairgrounds. The animals’ owner was contacted.

June 17—12:21 a.m. A caller reported that a tree had fallen across SR4 one mile west of Skamokawa. The caller said that he had been able to clear one lane of the road. State Patrol responded. 11:08 a.m. A caller reported that a neighbor was trespassing on the caller’s property.
