County calls for bids for Loop Road repair

Wahkiakum County commissioners will open bids August 20, 10 a.m., for stabilizing a sliding slope along Loop Road near Grays River.

The slide occurred in late 2011. The county road department closed the road to one lane and began planning a repair, which is complicated by the fact that the Grays River runs against the bottom of the slope.

Public Works Director Pete Ringen said Tuesday that the project entails construction of a concrete retaining wall to support Loop Road in the area where the slope failure occurred.

The slide material will be cleaned up, and a rock faced slope to support the foundation of the retaining wall will be constructed above ordinary high water of Grays River. New road surfacing will be placed, and a section of guardrail will be installed.
