Clatskanie volleyball begins postseason strong

The Clatskanie Tigers girls volleyball team suffered a three-set sweep (17-25, 20-25, 14-25) at the hands of Astoria last Tuesday, but they quickly shrugged it off Saturday with a three-set sweep of their own (25-15, 25-9, 25-12) over the 11th seeded Oakridge Warriors. "I am so proud of the team and how they played tonight," said Head coach Amanda Baker. "An all around team effort on defense is exactly what we needed to play at this next level. They cleaned up and toughened up on serving a team total of 19 aces with only eight errors."

Junior Lacey Willis led the team with 21 kills and a .581 efficiency. Willis also added nine digs, five aces, and a block. Senior Joey Sizemore had two blocks to lead the team. According to Baker, Sizemore was also the team's top serve/receive with a 2.85 passer rating and over 50 percent of the balls received. Sizemore rounded out her stats with nine digs, eight aces, and eight kills on the night. Junior libero McKinsey Doyle led the team with 12 digs and added five assists and an ace. Junior Addy Compton had 26 assists to lead the Tigers and added nine digs and two aces in the winning effort. Rounding out the night's stats were senior Mya Jensen and junior Olivia George, as George managed six kills, two digs, and a block, and Jensen finished with five digs, four kills, and an ace.

The Tigers finished their regular season with a 24-4 record, including a 15-1 league record. The team will take on 23-1 Myrtle Point Friday, Nov. 7 at 1 p.m. "We are locked in and ready for the next round in La Grande," said Baker.
