March 26, 2014



Wahkiakum County law enforcement officers and emergency response personnel handled a variety of reports during the past week, including:

March 17 – 8:42 a.m. Washington State Fish and Wildlife were notified about an ailing elk in the Rosedale area. 10:10 a.m. The Grays River ambulance responded to aid a Rosburg resident having chest pain. 11:18 a.m. An individual was taken into custody after striking and then pushing a passenger out of his vehicle in Cathlamet. 1:30 p.m. A caller reported that gas had been siphoned from a vehicle at an Elochoman Valley business. 2:04 p.m. The Cathlamet Fire Department responded to an alarm at the middle school. 3:09 p.m. Deputies responded to a civil dispute in Cathlamet. 5:05 p.m. A caller requested a welfare check on a distressed individual. 5:52 p.m. A welfare check was requested for a possibly suicidal individual; a mental health professional was en route. 9:44 p.m. A Rosedale resident reported finding a door open upon returning home; a deputy did a walk through and nothing appeared to be amiss.


March 18 – 12:12 p.m. The sheriff’s office, the Cathlamet ambulance and the Cathlamet Fire Department responded to a Rosedale residence to assist with a lift. 2:02 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to a Rosedale residence to assist with a lift. 3:53 p.m. A caller reported a dead elk in a ditch in the Rosedale area. 4:17 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to a Rosedale residence to assist with a lift. 4:21 p.m. The Cathlamet Fire Department responded to a Rosedale residence to assist with a lift. 5:05 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to aid a Puget Island resident with an ankle injury.


March 19 – 12:38 p.m. A caller reported that a dead horse alongside a driveway at a Rosburg residence had been there for some time. 3:17 p.m. A caller reported seeing a vehicle being hit in the grade school parking lot.

March 20 – 11:02 a.m. A Cathlamet resident reported identity theft and fraud. 1:42 p.m. A caller reported seeing a “habitual DUI” traveling in the county. 4:00 p.m. A caller reported that a juvenile had been threatening to run away. 9:33 p.m. The Grays River ambulance responded to a Grays River residence to assist an elderly woman who had fallen. 10:38 p.m. Mason County requested assistance in a search for a missing 60-year-old male. 10:41 p.m. A caller reported seeing a suspicious man dressed in full camouflage pushing an unlit ATV down the road in the Grays River area.

March 21 – 1:41 p.m. The Puget Island Fire Department responded to the report of a power pole that was on fire on Puget Island; the PUD was notified. 2:24 p.m. Fish and wildlife agents were notified of a large injured bird in the Elochoman Valley. 2:35 p.m. A resident reported that her cats had been stolen from her Puget Island home while she had been living elsewhere. 3:30 p.m. A caller reported that a westbound vehicle on SR 4 was all over the road. 7:59 p.m. A motorist reported that a vehicle had passed him on SR 4 on a blind corner with double yellow lines and oncoming traffic.

March 22 – 12:05 a.m. A Rosburg resident reported hearing shots fired. 11:30 a.m. A Puget Island resident reported the theft of a gas can from a boat. 11:50 p.m. A Cathlamet resident reported being bitten by neighbor’s dog. 5:53 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to a Puget Island residence to aid a woman who had fallen and hurt her back.

March 23 – 2:37 a.m. Deputies and the Grays River ambulance responded to the report of an accident in Rosburg; an empty vehicle was found over the fog line and partially blocking the eastbound lane. 4:34 p.m. The Cathlamet Fire Department responded to a Cathlamet business after an alarm was accidentally activated. 4:51 p.m. A caller reported a large rock in the eastbound lane of SR 4 near Nassa Point. 6:26 p.m. A caller reported three eastbound motorcyclists speeding on SR 4 near Skamokawa.
