The Alzheimer’s Association Western and Central Washington Chapter invites advocates from across the state to join them February 25 for Advocacy Day in Olympia. Help speak out for the needs and rights of people affected by Alzheimer’s.

Participants will have the opportunity to learn about the legislative process, meet face-to-face with elected officials and share their experience of Alzheimer’s and dementia with those making decisions affecting caregivers and families.

Advocates will ask state legislators to support the Alzheimer's Disease Working Group, which will make recommendations at the end of 2015.

Advocates will also seek support for reestablishing the Joint Legislative Executive Committee on Aging & Disability, as well as funding for a study of long-term care financing options other than Medicaid.

Alzheimer’s is the third leading cause of death in Washington State. On March 27, 2014, Governor Jay Inslee signed a bill to begin the important work of developing an Alzheimer’s Disease Plan for Washington State. This was a critical step in preparing Washington State to meet the needs of the hundreds of thousands of Washingtonians who are and will be affected by this progressive, fatal disease.
