Wahkiakum school board okays security measures

At a special meeting of the Wahkiakum School District Board of Directors on Monday, school board members Tina Schubert, Shawn Merz, Sue O’Connor and Paula Culbertson voted on three items that will enable the school district to move forward with some security measures.

With advice from Rod Roduin, a consultant with Construction Services Group (CSG), a partner with ESD, the board was able to narrow down a selection after receiving seven bids for a new phone system. The board approved a bid of $25,244.11 from Frontier.

The board also approved a bid of $67,544.47 from Zones for the purchase of phone switches and wi-fi access points. According to meeting minutes, Zones was the only vendor whose bid met all the needs of the school district.

Finally, the board agreed to purchase security window filming from A Cooler Tomorrow, LLC for $6831.96. The film will be placed on windows at all access points at each school and is designed to slow down intruders.

The next school board meeting is scheduled for July 28 at 5:30 p.m. in the high school library.
