Clatskanie girls win three of four over break

The Clatskanie girls basketball team followed up a 49-40 loss against Crosshill Christian earlier last month with a 62-32 drubbing of Waldport on Monday, Dec. 22. Taking a 32-20 lead into halftime, the Tigers outscored the Irish 30-12 in the second. Juniors Lacey Willis and Olivia George had 19 points each for the Tigers, followed by 11 from senior Joey Sizemore. The senior’s 16 assists earned her a double-double, and she also had three blocks to lead the team. Willis also led the team in steals with four, while George led the team in rebounds with 12 for yet another team double-double.

The following week, the Tigers fell 42-30 to Tillamook. Though only trailing their host by a point going into halftime, Clatskanie was outscored 13-9 in the third and 13-6 in the fourth to complete the loss. Shorthanded and playing against 3A and 4A schools, the Tigers dressed only seven players for the tournament. Still, with Tillamook being the only loss, Clatskanie showed their grit. Sizemore led all scorers with 12 points, followed by 11 from George and six points from senior Bethany Hagen. Sizemore led the girls in rebounds with 18, assists with seven, blocks with two, and co-led with Hagen in the category of steals with two each.

The Tigers got back to their winning ways the following day against Catlin Gabel, defeating the Eagles 41-24. Outscoring Catlin Gabel in every quarter, Clatskanie held a comfortable lead from the beginning of the third quarter. Sizemore scored 17 points to lead the Tigers, followed by 16 by George, five by McKinsey Doyle, and three by Hagen. Sizemore led the Tigers in assists with nine, steals with four, and blocks with one. Along with George, Sizemore co-led the team in rebounds with eight each.

Finally, the girls defeated Warrenton 39-34 to close out 2025. Taking a 17-8 lead into halftime, the Tigers, despite being outscored in both the third and fourth quarters, held on for the five-point victory. Sizemore stole the show with 18 points, 16 rebounds, eight blocks, and four assists, all good enough to lead the team. George added 14 points and led the team in steals with six. Hagen added four points, while Doyle chipped in three points in the narrow victory.

The Tigers (5-3) took on Columbia Christian on Tuesday, Jan. 6, but the results of the game were not available at the time of press. Clatskanie travels to Portland Christian Friday, Jan. 9, before returning home Monday, Jan. 12, to host Vernonia.
