September 10, 2015



Wahkiakum County law enforcement officers and emergency response personnel handled a variety of reports during the past week, including:

August 31 — 1:17 p.m. Deputies spent time patrolling the detour in the Elochoman Valley after several reports of reckless driving. Several vehicles were stopped for speeding. 2:12 p.m. A Cathlamet resident heard screaming at a neighbor’s home. Three deputies went to the home and knocked several times but there was no response. While there, they heard screaming and entered the home. One adult and one juvenile were playing video games and screaming. A deputy said he would be contacting the juvenile’s parent. 2:58 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided an ailing Grays River resident. 5:11 p.m. A Deep River resident reported two suspicious subjects in a truck driving on his neighbor’s property. 6:27 p.m. A caller reported two subjects pulling fishing markers in Deep River. 6:57 p.m. A Deep River resident reported that an individual had fired shots at a boat and over the heads of the people on the boat on Deep River. The individual was contacted by a deputy and determined to be very intoxicated. He was upset that the boaters were creating a wake and had fired the shots to get their attention. After gathering statements from the boaters, the deputy gave the individual a warning.

September 1 — 3:15 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided an elderly Elochoman Valley resident who was ill. 10:18 a.m. A juvenile was causing problems at a Skamokawa home. A deputy and an advocate from mental health responded. An individual was taken into custody. 10:23 a.m. A Puget Island resident reported that a sheep had been attacked and injured by two dogs. Because it was the second time the dogs had attacked livestock, the owner decided to put them down. 10:37 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to a Skamokawa home after a juvenile had purposely and badly injured himself. 11:23 a.m. A deputy helped Adams County Sheriff’s Office contact a resident in Skamokawa about a property issue. 12:41 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided an employee who had passed out at a Skamokawa business. 4:46 p.m. An alarm was activated at an Elochoman Valley residence. 5:20 p.m. A Rosedale resident was concerned about a child who was on a nearby road. 5:35 p.m. The Cathlamet Fire Department responded to the report of smoke seen in the Rosedale area.

September 2 — 12:43 a.m. Dispatch aided a lost motorist. 10:42 a.m. A Cathlamet resident was concerned about a person standing outside. 12:20 p.m. An advocate from mental health requested deputy assistance for an involuntary commitment. 12:57 p.m. A caller reported rocks falling into an Elochoman Valley road. 1:09 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Puget Island resident who had fallen down some steps. 2:03 p.m. Washington State Patrol requested assistance for a semi that had high centered on an Elochoman Valley road. 2:12 p.m. A caller reported that some large branches had fallen into the westbound lane of SR 4 near Nassa Point. 6:28 p.m. An individual was taken into custody after a vehicle stop on an Elochoman Valley road. 6:50 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided an elderly Cathlamet resident who had slipped out of his chair. 7:17 p.m. An individual was taken into custody after a vehicle stop on a Cathlamet road. 7:28 p.m. A caller reported a possible burglary in the Elochoman Valley area, stating that a man had left a residence with a bag the day after the residents had been served an eviction notice. 7:53 p.m. A Cathlamet resident reported a suspicious couple selling steaks out of their van. 10:37 p.m. A caller reported a car had gotten stuck in a ditch in the Elochoman Valley area the night before and complained that the detour was poorly marked. He was advised to call WSDOT during daytime hours to lodge a complaint.

September 3 — 7:24 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a man who was unable to move his leg after an earlier fall. 9:26 a.m. A Cathlamet resident was concerned about a trailer parked across the street from her home. A deputy investigated and discovered the trailer was parked on a private drive, where there were no occupants. Because the drive was not associated with the Town of Cathlamet, nothing was done. 9:59 a.m. A Cathlamet resident reported hearing a dog barking and that it sounded like it was over the nearby cliff. Deputies and the Cathlamet Fire Department investigated and rescued the dog from where it had fallen over the cliff. 10:31 a.m. A Cathlamet business reported that someone had left without paying their bill. After more investigation the business owner was advised that it was a civil matter. 11:20 a.m. A Rosedale resident reported that a neighbor had vandalized and stolen some of his property. An individual was taken into custody. 1:26 p.m. A caller reported that he was having a problem with boaters speeding past the log yard in Deep River and causing a wake. 2:29 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance transported a clinic patient with heart problems to the hospital. 2:35 p.m. A Cathlamet resident reported that a boater had been parked at a dock illegally and had been dumping cleaning fluid overboard. 4:11 p.m. A caller reported that a man in a wheelchair had been sitting outside a Rosedale address for hours. 5:27 p.m. A Cathlamet resident reported that three shots had been fired. It turned out that someone was shooting clay pigeons from a boat. 8:55 p.m. A caller reported two suspicious individuals parked in the middle of a road in the Rosburg area. He thought they might be stealing gas from equipment nearby. 9:13 p.m. A caller reported that a fawn had been hit in the Deep River area and needed to be dispatched.

September 4 — 7:55 a.m. A caller reported a truck and trailer accident on an Elochoman Valley road. 9:42 a.m. An Elochoman Valley resident reported hearing a single gunshot at a neighbor’s residence. 10:41 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Skamokawa resident who may have had a stroke. 3:49 p.m. A landlord requested that a deputy accompany her to her rental home on Puget Island to ascertain if it was vacant. 6:46 p.m. An Elochoman Valley resident complained that the neighbors were deliberately attempting to irritate him. 7:25 p.m. An individual was taken into custody after a vehicle stop on SR 4 west of County Line Park. 8:16 p.m. An Elochoman Valley resident complained that his neighbor had threatened his son. 9:57 p.m. Deputies, the Grays River Fire Department and the Grays River ambulance responded to a traffic accident in Deep River. A truck had gone down an embankment and a man was found walking eastbound. He said another person who had been in the vehicle was walking west.

September 5 — 1:15 a.m. A Cathlamet resident reported hearing two shots fired. A deputy responded and didn’t see anything. 3:18 a.m. A caller reported rocks on SR 4 in the westbound lane near Flandersville. 4:59 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided an elderly Elochoman Valley resident who was having breathing problems. 7:40 p.m. A caller reported an inebriated man passed out in a small boat in Skamokawa. The man eventually left. 10:43 p.m. A Puget Island resident reported that someone was trying to get into his home.

September 6 — 4:34 p.m. Cowlitz County requested agency assistance for an event near Mill Creek Road. 6:37 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a juvenile who had fallen and broken his arm in the Elochoman Valley. 11:15 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided an Elochoman Valley resident who was having heart attack symptoms. 11:24 p.m. A caller reported a 30 foot long fuel spill on SR 4 in the Elochoman Valley area.

September 7 — 4:33 a.m. District 4 responded to a request from Cowlitz County for a tender for a structure fire. 12:15 p.m. Deputies, the Grays River Fire Department and the Grays River ambulance aided a Rosburg resident whose medical alarm had been activated.
