N/GRV School Board Notes

September 17, 2015

The Naselle-Grays River Valley School District Board of Directors met for its monthly meeting on September 15.

After approving minutes from the previous board meeting, payroll and accounts payable expenses, several items of business were addressed.

Savanna Higginbotham was hired as middle school volleyball coach along with Heather Varila as assistant cook. An unpaid leave request was approved for Elementary teacher, Sue Holt. The board adopted policy 3205 Sexual Harassment of Students.

Two other policies were brought before the school board, one addressing complaints against staff and the other regarding use of district cell phones. No action was taken on these policies as they were examined for the first time and considered as discussion only.

The district also approved the surplus sale of two Thomas school buses each with over 200,000 miles. The buses have already come off of the state’s bus depreciation schedule.

The board acknowledged the impending retirement of Norilyn Pakenen after 32 years with the school district.

Youth Camp Principal Alan Bennett reported on student testing data and gave an overview of the recent postponing of inmates participating in the Department of Natural Resources Forestry program, which requires them to leave campus during the day.

Superintendent Lisa Nelson gave an overview of enrollment patterns comparing 2014 to 2015, indicating that the district had seen an increase of about 20 students.

The next regular meeting is scheduled for October 20 at 6:30 p.m. at the middle school commons.
