Wintergreen published

for 30th anniversary

Pharos Editions has announced the 30th anniversary edition of Robert Pyle’s “Wintergreen: Rambles in a Ravaged Land,” with a new introduction by David Guterson and updated afterword by the author.

The 1987 John Burroughs Medal for best natural history book of the year, Wintergreen remains as relevant today as when it first appeared.

Weaving portraits of the place and its inhabitants--animal, plant, and human--with the story of his own love affair with the hills, Pyle has written a book so even handed in its passion that it has been celebrated by those who make their living with a chain saw as well as by environmentalists. As he writes, “My sympathies lie with the people and the woods, but not with the companies that have used them both with equal disregard.”

Pyle will read from and sign copies of “Wintergreen” at the following local venues:

--Skamokawa, Redmen Hall Holiday Open House, November 29, 12-4 p.m.

--Astoria, Astoria Library, December 4, 7:30 p.m.

--Naselle, Timberland Public Library, December 9, 6 p.m.

--Ilwaco, Time Enough Books, December 13, 7 p.m.

--Longview Public Library, January 13, 7 p.m.
