Port 1 commissioners honored retiring Commissioner Larry Bonds for his years of service.

Port District1 commissioners honored Larry Bonds, who retired from the board earlier this year, at Thursday's meeting.

"I want to thank you and congratulate you for the years that you spent trying to keep our costs down and for representing the citizens of Cathlamet," Commissioner Bob Kizziar said.

"It was a pleasure. I enjoyed it," Bonds said.

"You always seemed to ask the tough questions that none of us would," Commissioner Gary Quigley said.

In other business, Kizziar asked the other commissioners if they would consider allowing pets in the marina's accommodations with a $25 deposit during local emergencies. According to Kizziar, a resident who had been concerned about the recent flooding had approached him about the possibility. Currently pets are not allowed.

"I'm fine with the way we are now," Commissioner Scott Anderson said after some discussion. Quigley agreed.

Talk turned to the removal of trees above the marina and near the cabins. According to Counsel Tim Hanigan neither the State of Washington nor the Town of Cathlamet would take responsibility for them.

Port Manager Jackie Lea asked for permission to speak to Wahkiakum County commissioners about the project.

The commissioners agreed and authorized Lea to contact the county or explore other options if necessary.
