January 28, 2016



Wahkiakum County law enforcement officers and emergency response personnel handled a variety of reports during the past week, including:

January 18 — 12:58 p.m. A Skamokawa resident who frequently leaves candy for the postal delivery person was concerned when he found his mailbox empty after unintentionally leaving the usual gift on a holiday. He was concerned that his mail and his neighbors’ mail might be at risk. Deputies will be watchful. 3:36 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided an unconscious Puget Island resident. 3:48 p.m. A motorist was taken into custody after a vehicle stop in Cathlamet.

January 19 — 11:25 a.m. An Elochoman Valley resident received a fraudulent call from someone claiming to be from the IRS. 4:09 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Puget Island resident complaining of severe abdominal pain. 9:44 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided an Elochoman Valley resident who was having difficulty breathing. 9:51 p.m. A caller reported that a young man in Cathlamet was out of control and had hurt his hand after striking a vehicle. He was taken into custody. 9:52 p.m. A Skamokawa parent was concerned about his developmentally disabled son who had left the house earlier. The father called later to report that the young man had returned. 10:05 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a man who had injured his hand after punching a vehicle.

January 20 — 10:00 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Cathlamet resident who was having complications due to diabetes. 1:41 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Cathlamet resident with blood sugar and respiratory issues. 4:03 p.m. The Grays River ambulance aided a Deep River resident who had fallen. 4:05 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Skamokawa resident who had fallen. 6:23 p.m. Culvert work needed to be done in the Grays River area, and a caller asked dispatch to notify the PUD that they needed to locate and mark their lines. 11:08 p.m. An Elochoman Valley resident reported a suspicious circumstance involving a vehicle partially blocking a roadway. Narcotics were found in the vehicle, and a call came in about a burglary in progress nearby. The vehicle was towed, stored and sealed as evidence.

January 21 — 11:34 a.m. A caller reported high water on a Deep River Road. 11:52 a.m. A caller reported that an animal had been dumped illegally at a Skamokawa address. 3:03 p.m. A caller reported a possible sexual assault on a school bus. 3:09 p.m. Deputies, the District 4 Fire Department and the Cathlamet ambulance responded to a rollover accident on Beaver Creek.

January 22 — 12:52 a.m. A representative from a hospital in Vancouver reported that an individual involved in a recent accident had tested positive for methamphetamine. The caller was also going to call Child Protective Services because the driver’s children had also been in the car. 1:41 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Cathlamet resident with high blood sugar. 4:09 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Puget Island resident who had popped out her hip. 4:32 p.m. An Elochoman Valley resident was concerned after finding a piece of metal had been moved on his property. Nothing appeared to be stolen. 5:33 p.m. A power outage was reported in the Grays River area. 6:36 p.m. The Grays River ambulance aided a Deep River resident who had fallen. 9:04 p.m. A caller reported seeing a dog that had been hit by a car lie down in the middle of a Puget Island road.

January 23 — 8:21 a.m. A Grays River resident reported that there had been a suspicious vehicle in his driveway. The driver left quickly when he came out of his house. 3:41 p.m. An Elochoman Valley resident complained that an aggressive dog belonging to his neighbors had come into his yard and lunged at him. 4:30 p.m. Deputies, the District 4 Fire Department and the Cathlamet ambulance responded to the report of a two vehicle accident on SR 4 in the Elochoman Valley area.

January 24 — 10:39 a.m. A caller reported hearing yelling and shots fired in the Deep River area. A deputy investigated and found evidence of target practice at a makeshift firing range. 11:18 a.m. A caller was advised after reporting a dispute about a parenting plan. 1:08 p.m. A caller reported that a pump house on Puget Island was running nonstop. 7:03 p.m. A caller reported that an individual was suicidal. The individual was able to persuade a deputy that the caller’s assertion was false. 7:21 p.m. A caller was suicidal and called 911 after being unable to contact the mental health department. Deputies visited the home and got him in contact with a mental health professional. 10:15 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Rosedale resident who had blood in his urine.
