Down River Dispatches

If you haven’t driven through Grays River to Rosburg lately, you are really missing a beautiful sight. The trees are filled with eagles and seagulls are flying in huge flocks up and down the river and settling in all the hay fields. In a couple of fields, it looks almost like it snowed seagulls. The smelt are definitely here.

News from Naselle:

This week’s Free Friday Night Movie is a 2015 American 3D live-action/computer-animated fantasy horror comedy film based on a children's book series, and is rated PG. Upset about moving from a big city to a small town, teenager Zach Cooper finds a silver lining when he meets a beautiful girl, Hannah, living right next door. But every silver lining has a cloud, and Zach's comes when he learns that Hannah has a mysterious dad who is revealed to be R. L. Stine, the author of a bestselling series. It turns out that there is a reason why Stine is so strange: He is a prisoner of his own imagination; the monsters that his books made famous are real.

The show starts at 7 p.m. and concessions are available before the movie and during intermission. Bring the family as this movie is one of the best, I’m told.

On Tuesday at 6 p.m. the Wahkiakum County commissioners will hold a town hall meeting in the Grays River Valley Center at Johnson Park. Due to personal circumstances, three of the board members of the Johnson Park Advisory Board have resigned. The commissioners are looking for replacements for those members. If you are someone who would be interested in filling one of those volunteer positions, please contact the commissioner’s office or attend the meeting.

Being a volunteer is sometimes an exhausting and thankless job, but if you are passionate about a project no thanks are needed. The Grays River Valley Center at Johnson Park has come a long way with the help of many volunteers who have put their heart and soul (not to mention their aching bodies) into making it a place for the community to enjoy, and now it’s time for some new blood to give it new direction in its growth. If anyone has questions, please don’t hesitate to give me a call and I will try to answer those questions.

The Rosburg Wednesday Senior Lunch Bunch meets in the Rosburg Hall each week for a nutritious lunch that is prepared and served by Pat Potter and her volunteer crew.

On Thursdays a senior meal is also served at the Rosburg Hall and is sponsored by CAP.
