Won’t you join in the Westend caucus that includes the Grays River, Rosburg and Deep River precincts? The purpose of this caucus is to nominate a candidate and elect delegates for the Democratic party of Washington State. The event will be held at the Rosburg Hall on Saturday at 10 a.m. For more information you can contact Steve Puddicombe at 465-2205.

Get ready for the annual Spring Chicken Dinner sponsored by the Rosburg Community Club. This year’s event will be held on April 3 from 11:30 am. to 2 p.m. in the Rosburg Hall. Fill your belly with some delicious home cooked chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, hot rolls, the famous salad bar and home made pies and desserts.

There will not be a Free Friday Night Movie this week in the Grays River Valley Center at Johnson Park because we will be preparing for the Super Sale taking place on Saturday.

Next week’s movie is a family friendly show about an epic journey into the world of dinosaurs where an Apatosaurus named Arlo makes an unlikely human friend. While traveling through a harsh and mysterious landscape, Arlo learns the power of confronting his fears and discovers what he is truly capable of. Won’t you join us for a fun evening?

Happy Birthday to Karen Hodson, Scott Jacot, Lily Holt, Nikki Footh, Parker Dalton and Denise Blanchard.

This past weekend I was approached by an individual with a petition that objected to someone purchasing the Rosburg Store and re-opening it with a retail area for marijuana sales. My husband and I both signed it. In my opinion, the store is too close to the Grays River Valley Center and Johnson Park which should have the same restrictions as a school. Our kids use the grounds and the building for school functions and other family functions.

In my opinion, if someone wants to use marijuana medically, or socially, they should do so at home, away from the public. Wahkiakum County has no shortage of growers, sellers or users of this drug, and now that it is a legal substance, so be it. But, just as with tobacco, please keep it away from me, my family and pets, and especially our children.

I understand that our commissioners turned down the variance request, and I commend them on their decision.

Happy Easter to all.
