New salmon derby set for August 26-27

August 18, 2016

The Wahkiakum Chamber of Commerce will host a Fall Run Salmon Derby “Get Hooked” on August 26 and 27. This will be the first year for this derby. The event will take place at Elochoman Slough Marina in Cathlamet.

The “Get Hooked” Fall Run Salmon Derby is a scholarship fundraising event for the Wahkiakum Chamber of Commerce. Funds raised at this event will provide a high school senior with a scholarship to attend a college, university, or trade school after graduation. Last May they presented a graduating senior with a $1,000 scholarship with funds that were raised during the Spring “Hook the Hawg” Derby and they anticipate that this new event will be just as successful.

The derby will be a two-day fishing event and because of the later tides will begin at 8 a.m. on Friday, August 26 and finish in the evening on Saturday, August 27. Plan to stop by the chamber’s booth in the morning to be checked in for the derby. All salmon should be gilled and not gutted. Weigh-in will occur between 2-8 p.m., each day. Cash prizes, a custom fishing rod and more will be awarded for the largest salmon caught in four groups-Men, Women, Youth, and Kids.

Tickets for the “Get Hooked” Fall Run Salmon Derby are available at the following locations: Skamokawa Resort, Moore Auto, Bank of the Pacific Cathlamet, Elochoman Slough Marina, and the day of the event. Tickets for adults (18+) are $20, tickets for youth (11-17) are $10, and tickets for kids (10 and under) are $5.

For further information, or to become a vendor at the event, contact the Wahkiakum Chamber of Commerce (360) 795-9996 or wchamber@cni.net.
