Candidate clarifies inaccuracies

October 20, 2016

To The Eagle:

Regarding Mr. Cothren’s letter last week, I wholeheartedly agree with the heading: “Please vote for integrity.” In that spirit, I write to clarify the inaccuracies that Mr. Cothren attributed to me.

First, I never presented at any county commissioner meetings in 2015. All of the meeting minutes are online, so it is easy to see that his statement is false. I did present on October 7, 2014 and November 12, 2014. The first time was to request that the commissioners meet with the Town to re-negotiate their interlocal agreement regarding the Boege Road sewer extension. Mr. Cothren agreed and a meeting was scheduled. The second time was to ask Mr. Cothren why he failed to attend that scheduled meeting. He stated that he forgot, but he promised repeatedly that he would follow through. This was two years ago, and the Town Mayor says that Mr. Cothren has yet to agree to meet with him on this issue. In fact, the Mayor affirmatively denies Mr. Cothren’s claim that any meeting took place.

Second, his assertion that I “demanded” that the county give me $3000 and two more free sewer hook-ups is totally and completely false. I have never demanded, requested, begged or expected anything from the county, or anyone else for that matter.

It is neither impolite nor disrespectful to expect accountability from an elected official, and, at the very least, we should be able to expect the truth. So yes, vote for integrity this election.
